🌀 Roll-A-Thon Fundraiser 2025

Our annual Roll-A-Thon is underway — and we need your help to make it a success!

One of the most important skills in Aikido is learning how to roll safely.

At this special event, kids get several 5-minute rolling sessions and see how many rolls they can do — it’s a challenge they love!

Students collect sponsors ahead of time, roll their hearts out, and then follow up with their supporters to collect pledges.

✅ Builds confidence and safe-falling skills
✅ Fun for families and friends to cheer (in person or on Zoom)
✅ Funds dojo improvements, equipment, and scholarships

Our goal this year is to raise $85,000 to help us continue recovering from the COVID lockdowns and move closer to having our own dedicated training space with upgrades and more mats.

How it works

The Roll-A-Thon is one of our most exciting kids’ events of the year.

In Aikido, learning how to roll safely is one of the most important skills we develop. Usually, students get about five minutes of rolling practice per class.

At our Roll-A-Thon, we crank up the fun:

Kids take part in 3–4 rolling sessions, each about five minutes long, and try to see how many rolls they can do! It’s a point of pride for our students — it takes focus, stamina, and spirit — and they have a blast doing it.

A volunteer roll tracker jots down each student’s totals as instructors call them out while family and friends cheer them on — in person or on Zoom.

Before the event, students collect sponsors. Afterward, they tally up their rolls and reach out to their supporters to collect pledges.

Fun, high-energy training that builds confidence and safe-falling skills
Family & friends can cheer from the dojo or from home via Zoom
All proceeds support dojo improvements, equipment, and scholarships
All donations are tax deductible.

Our 2025 goal is to raise $85,000 as we continue recovering from the COVID lockdowns and work toward our dream of a dedicated training space with upgrades and more mats.

We’re already partway there thanks to generous donations earlier this year — and your support can help us reach the finish line!

Brett Johnson

"Aikido has been one of the most challenging and rewarding things I've ever been a part of.

The hardworking student in the kid's class have grown and gained confidence, patience and focus over the course of their time in the dojo. In the words of my fellow student and youth instructor Karin, it's special that they "have this space to learn, grow, challenge themselves, and just enjoy a screen-free time interacting with other kids."

"I have been training at Aikido Kenkyukai Los Angeles since early 2022, and during that time I have witnessed aikido, Suzuki Sensei, and this dojo’s community change me and my fellow students for the better.

In 2024 and 2025 I traveled to Japan with Suzuki Sensei and other AKI students, and had the amazing opportunity to participate in..."
